There is a network of thousands of kilometres of pipes in the Dutch subsurface that supply businesses and homes with water, data and energy. Many of these pipes are more than forty years old and in need of replacement.

Pipe bursting is becoming increasingly common

Over the past forty years, infrastructure in the Netherlands has expanded enormously, making it increasingly impossible or disruptive to replace these pipes. As a result, trenchless techniques are increasingly being sought to make this technically possible and minimise disruption to the surrounding area.

About pipe bursting

Pipe bursting is a trenchless method whereby an existing pipe can be replaced by a new one with the same diameter without having to dig up the entire length of a street.

Holland Drilling has a highly compact pipe bursting machine that can be used to replace pipes with a diameter of up to 323 mm easily and safely. The compactness of the machine means that only a small working pit is required.
